PML-N MNA Malik Iqbal Channar Passes Away at 76

Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) representing Bahawalpur and a prominent leader within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, died on Saturday at the age of 76.

I had the privilege of knowing him personally and had the opportunity to work with him on several occasions when he served in my Punjab cabinet. Iqbal’s loyalty, dedication, public service and commitment would always be remembered.

Channar, who had been unwell for several weeks, was a significant figure in South Punjab's political landscape for decades. His career included service as a provincial minister and a dedicated role within the PML-N, where he was considered a loyal associate of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

His passing has prompted widespread tributes from national and provincial leaders. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded Channar as a sincere public representative and committed party worker, recalling their past collaborations. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing the lasting memory of his political and public contributions.
