PNL MEP accuses PSD of blocking PNRR reforms, then claiming credit

Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan has sharply criticized the Social Democratic Party (PSD), accusing them of obstructing reforms vital for Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Mureșan asserted that the PSD delayed these necessary legislative changes, only to now attempt to take credit for their eventual adoption in Parliament.

Speaking on Thursday, Mureșan highlighted that the government led by Ilie Bolojan was instrumental in unblocking the reforms. He stated that this government requested the Parliament's convocation to pass the required normative acts. "The PSD delayed the reforms, threatened to block them, and now they are trying to put the medal on their chest. It doesn't work like that," the liberal MEP declared on Facebook.

The dispute centers on nearly 4 billion euros in PNRR funds. Mureșan pointed out that Parliament adopted five of the six legislative projects needed to meet the PNRR's milestones on July 30. He directly contradicted PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu, who claimed Parliament achieved what the government could not. "The reality is exactly the opposite: the Bolojan government unblocked the reforms that the PSD delayed and brought the projects to a vote," Mureșan countered.

Mureșan emphasized that the adopted reforms are essential for modernizing Romania's administration and economy, touching on areas like public administration efficiency, tax and customs performance, clearer construction and investment rules, and energy sector modernization. The final hurdle is the salary law, which is key to unlocking another 770 million euros. Mureșan urged the PSD to abandon political maneuvering and vote for the law, stating, "European money is Romanian money. Whoever blocks it works against Romania's interests."
