Romanian ex-ministers trade barbs online over health policy and integrity

A heated exchange erupted on Romanian social media between two former Health Ministers, Vlad Voiculescu of the USR party and Alexandru Rogobete of the PSD.

Voiculescu launched a detailed critique of Rogobete, acknowledging that he had initially shown promise and done some good for the health system. However, Voiculescu argued that Rogobete later became a leading voice in the PSD's attacks against opponents. He pointed to Rogobete's decision to close the burn center at Floreasca Hospital, a move that Voiculescu claimed Rogobete himself had approved the operation of, despite public opposition from Colectiv fire survivors and others aware of the center's issues.

Voiculescu further alleged that Rogobete's rhetoric shifted significantly after taking office, moving away from what Voiculescu described as common sense language towards a more "USL-ist" style. He recounted an internal PSD description of Rogobete as "sweet-tongued, sly ass," warning to "be careful with him, he has no scruples." Voiculescu also criticized Rogobete for recent remarks made in parliament, where he referred to former minister Ioana Mihăilă as "chief epilator." Voiculescu defended Mihăilă, highlighting her medical and entrepreneurial achievements.
