Poet Brazdžionis's house in Kaunas for sale for 240,000 euros

A historic wooden house in Kaunas, once home to renowned Lithuanian poet Bernardas Brazdžionis, is now on the market for 240,000 euros.

Located on Taikos Avenue, the 1934-built residence is recognized as a cultural heritage site. The property description highlights that the house has preserved numerous authentic architectural elements from the interwar period, including its wooden facade, traditional window proportions, a glazed veranda, a gable roof, original doors, and interior wooden details. It stands as one of the few surviving interwar wooden homes in Kaunas, holding both architectural and memorial significance.

This house was where Brazdžionis spent a crucial phase of his life and literary career, residing there until his departure to the West in 1944. The poet lived in Kaunas from 1929 to 1944, during which time he studied at Vytautas Magnus University, taught Lithuanian, worked at the "Sakalas" publishing house, and headed the Maironis Literature Museum. He published several notable poetry collections during this period, including "City of Princes" and "I Call the Nation."

After Lithuania regained independence, Brazdžionis visited Kaunas again during summers between 1991 and 2001. He received an honorary doctorate from Vytautas Magnus University in 1994 and was named an honorary citizen of Kaunas in 1995. A commemorative bust was unveiled at the house in 2003. The property spans 112.51 square meters, with an additional 52 square meters in the basement and semi-basement. It features five rooms in the living area and is connected to city utilities. The house sits on an 8.21-are plot surrounded by mature trees, offering potential owners a chance to contribute to the preservation of this unique cultural asset, despite requiring renovation.
