Pogacar wins Tour de France's fastest edition in history

Tadej Pogacar has once again made history in the Tour de France, securing his fifth victory and simultaneously setting a new record for the fastest average speed ever recorded in the prestigious cycling race. The Slovenian rider completed the 2026 edition with an astonishing average speed of 43.227 km/h, shattering the previous record.

The previous record, set in the 2025 Tour de France, was also held by Pogacar, who achieved an average speed of 42.728 km/h. This latest triumph underscores Pogacar's dominance in the sport and his remarkable ability to push the boundaries of performance.

Remarkably, the recent editions of the Tour de France have been the fastest in the event's long history. The 2026 and 2025 Tours now stand as the top two fastest, with Pogacar at the helm for both. The 2022 edition, won by Jonas Vingegaard, also features prominently in the record books, ranking as the third fastest at 42.026 km/h. The 40 km/h barrier was first broken in 1999, highlighting the significant acceleration in race speeds over the past few decades.
