Pohang is taking steps to elevate its cultural heritage, with the Oreosa Temple Bronze Bell being nominated for promotion to National Treasure status. This significant artifact, crafted in 1216 by the master craftsman Sun-gwang, has been recognized by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Cultural Heritage Committee for its exceptional preservation and artistic merit. The bell's complete condition and clear inscriptions make it an invaluable resource for studying Buddhist bells from the late Goryeo Dynasty.

Currently designated as a Treasure since 1998, the Oreosa Temple Bronze Bell was discovered during renovations at Oreosa Temple in 1995. Its potential elevation to National Treasure status, pending final review by the Cultural Heritage Administration, would mark a significant milestone for Pohang's cultural landscape. This move underscores the city's commitment to preserving and promoting its rich historical assets.

In parallel, Pohang is also pushing for an expansion of the national heritage area surrounding the Bogwangsa Temple site.
