Poland braces for cooler weather as heatwave subsides

Poland is set to experience a significant shift in weather as a period of cooler temperatures and rain replaces the recent heat. The change is driven by atmospheric systems moving across Europe, with western parts of the country influenced by an Atlantic high-pressure ridge and eastern regions by weak low-pressure systems.

On Thursday, forecasts indicate variable cloud cover with intermittent rain showers, particularly in the southeast, where thunderstorms are also possible, bringing up to 20 mm of precipitation. Maximum temperatures will range from 16°C in the Carpathian foothills to 27°C in western Poland. Winds will be light to moderate, becoming gusty in some areas, especially in the northwest where gusts could reach 55 km/h.

Looking ahead to Friday, a noticeable cooling trend is expected across most of Poland. Overnight temperatures will drop to between 13°C and 18°C, with cooler conditions around 10°C in mountainous areas. Daytime highs will generally range from 20°C to 24°C, though the southeast may still reach up to 26°C. The northern coast can expect showers and potential thunderstorms, with rainfall totals between 10 mm and 20 mm.

Wind conditions on Friday will be predominantly moderate to strong, especially in western and central Poland, with gusts up to 60 km/h. The Baltic coast will experience stronger winds, reaching 45 km/h with gusts up to 85 km/h. Mountainous regions will also see gusty winds, up to 65 km/h in the Sudetes and 55 km/h in the Carpathians. In Warsaw, Thursday will see partly cloudy skies clearing in the afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 26°C, followed by a cooler night with minimum temperatures around 17°C.
