Poland Issues Nationwide Safety Alert, Urges Citizens to Download Guide

Poland's Government Security Centre (RCB) has sent a nationwide alert, encouraging citizens to download a digital safety guide. The publication, developed by the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA), Ministry of National Defence (MON), and RCB, aims to prepare the public for potential emergencies.

The "Safety Guide" details alarm signals, including a continuous modulated siren for alarm and a continuous steady siren to signal its cancellation. It also advises on preparing an evacuation backpack with essentials like water, a first-aid kit, documents, and cash. Information on locating designated shelters is available through local government offices, state and volunteer fire brigades, and the government website.

The priority is to systematically fill in the gaps and build a modern, effective system for responding to threats.

Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński stated that the alert system effectively responded to a recent incident in Tarnawa-Kolonia, where sirens were activated within minutes of a potential threat being identified. He explained that while sirens provide the fastest immediate warning, a new mobile application for public alerts is expected within weeks to supplement the existing system. Kierwiński emphasized that the guide clarifies how to react to alarm signals, stressing the importance of staying in a safe place away from windows until the all-clear is given.

If we have little time – like the situation yesterday – then within those five, ten minutes, full information with a diagnosis will not come via Alert RCB, because there is simply no time for it.

The guide, which involved nearly 60 experts and is modeled after a Swedish counterpart, is part of a broader effort to update Poland's emergency response capabilities. Kierwiński highlighted that the system's priority is to address existing shortcomings and build a modern, effective threat response mechanism.
