Poland Plans Digital Tax, Cites Trump's Policies as Inspiration

The Polish government is preparing to introduce a digital tax, with Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski announcing that the project details will be unveiled in July. Gawkowski, who also serves as the Minister of Digital Affairs, stated that the proposal has been refined over several months through legal teams and multiple consultations.

"We want to be honest with our partners in the government, with whom we are talking, so that everyone knows what we are talking about," Gawkowski said in an RMF FM interview, emphasizing transparency in the process. He noted that countries like the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Austria already have similar digital taxes in place.

Gawkowski asserted that Polish citizens should not be disadvantaged, and that "institutions and corporations" should contribute through this tax. He also indicated that amounts spent on technological investments within Poland could be deductible from the digital tax. "If someone invests in digital competencies, in schools, in new factories, creates, for example, 5,000 jobs, then I say: finally. This is an action we are imitating from Trump," Gawkowski remarked, highlighting a potential link to policies enacted during the Trump administration in the United States.
