Poland Proposes New Rules for Driver's License Exams

Poland's Ministry of Infrastructure is introducing significant reforms to the process of obtaining a driver's license, aiming to modernize training and examination procedures. These changes are currently undergoing inter-ministerial coordination and public consultations.

A notable update is the introduction of a validity period for theoretical exam results. Candidates will have 24 months from the date they pass the theory test to complete the practical portion of the exam. Furthermore, the ministry plans to prohibit individuals from taking the practical driving exam more than once on the same day, a measure intended to ensure candidates are adequately prepared and rested.

For Category B licenses, the reform includes a substantial change: the elimination of the practical exam's maneuvering area component. This suggests a shift in focus towards on-road driving skills rather than specific parking or low-speed maneuvers within a controlled environment.

While initial discussions had considered mandatory retraining after three failed practical exams, the current proposal does not include a validity term for the completed training course itself. The Ministry of Infrastructure stated that the final shape of these regulations will depend on the legislative process. The reforms are part of a broader effort to enhance the quality and efficiency of driver education and licensing in Poland.
