Poland receives first three F-35A fighter jets, bolstering NATO's eastern flank

Poland has taken delivery of its first three F-35A Lightning II fighter jets, a pivotal moment for the nation's military modernization efforts. The advanced, fifth-generation aircraft landed at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask, signifying a substantial leap in Poland's aerial capabilities and its role within the NATO alliance.

Acquired in 2020 through a deal worth nearly 4.35 billion euros with the United States, Poland's fleet of 32 F-35s is seen as a crucial deterrent. "This is a significant moment that changes the operational capabilities of the entire Polish army," stated Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence. He emphasized that these jets represent not just new equipment but an entry into the "elite global league of modern air forces."

The F-35A variant, chosen by Poland, is a conventional takeoff and landing stealth fighter equipped for electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. These aircraft are noted for their ability to detect threats before being detected themselves, a key advantage on NATO's eastern flank. The delivery is part of a broader European deployment, with F-35s already in service in countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, and Italy.
