Poland's digital tax overhaul: KSeF and JPK_CIT offer a 'digital X-ray' of finances

Poland is rolling out two significant digital reporting mandates, KSeF (National System of e-Invoices) and JPK_CIT (Control File for Corporate Income Tax), aiming to give the state unprecedented access to structured, machine-readable tax data with minimal room for interpretation.

KSeF became mandatory for the largest taxpayers in February 2026. Every sales invoice must be issued in a standardized XML format and submitted to the Ministry of Finance's system before reaching the buyer. While KSeF aims to streamline processes, many companies are merely using the XML as a digital replacement for paper or PDFs, continuing manual bookkeeping. This approach incurs the costs of technical integration and training without realizing the system's potential for direct data feeding into ERP systems and automated verification.

Meanwhile, JPK_CIT, an extension of existing control file structures, targets corporate income tax. The largest companies are already reporting data for 2025, with deadlines approaching in July. However, many organizations are unprepared, struggling to generate technically correct XML files compliant with the Ministry of Finance's specifications. The rush to implement JPK_CIT, often with insufficient resources, risks incomplete or inaccurate submissions, as companies may lack the time and tools for thorough content verification.
