Poland's 'Dobry Start' Program Opens July 1 for School Supply Aid

Parents in Poland can begin applying for the "Dobry Start" (Good Start) program starting July 1st, which offers financial assistance for school supplies. The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) will accept applications for the 300 PLN (approximately $75 USD) benefit aimed at helping families cover the costs of textbooks, notebooks, and other essential school items.

The program is available for every child attending school between the ages of 7 and 20. For children with a diagnosed disability, the age limit extends to 24. This support is provided regardless of the parents' income level. However, it does not apply to children in preschool or university students.

Eligible students include those in the final years of technical and high schools, as well as vocational schools, provided they reach the age limit of 20 or 24 before the start of the school year. Adult students who are not financially dependent on their parents, and individuals leaving foster care, can apply independently.

Applications must be submitted electronically through the mZUS app, the ZUS Electronic Services Platform (PUE ZUS), online banking, or the Emp@tia portal. Applicants need to provide their bank account number, email address, and phone number, along with the details of their children and their schools. The deadline for applications is November 30th. To ensure payment by September 30th, applications should be submitted by the end of August.
