Police arrest 10 for attempted murder in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended 10 individuals in connection with alleged violent crimes and an invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. These arrests occurred in two distinct operations just days before the state's governorship election.

In Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area, four suspects were arrested for alleged conspiracy, attempted murder, assault, and illegal possession of firearms. Police operatives apprehended Olufemi Olatunji, Ajayi Idowu, Akingbala Oluwakemi, and Adekunle Basirat early on August 9, 2026, following a complaint. Searches of their properties yielded two firearms: a locally manufactured gun and a pump-action rifle. Police identified Basirat as the wife of a local figure known as "Indomine," and Oluwakemi as the wife of "Ostand."

Separately, operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six individuals suspected of belonging to an unlawful society. These arrests followed reports of an invasion at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, during which two students sustained injuries. The suspects, identified as Ajoba Akorede, Adam Oseni, Ogunrinde Ayomide, Ogunlana Muheez, Ajose Noah, and Adeniyi Damola, are currently assisting police with their investigations. Two of the suspects confessed to being members of the Aye confraternity.
