Police arrest 14 suspected cultists in Enugu, seize firearms

The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of 14 suspected cultists following two intelligence-led operations across the state. The operations resulted in the recovery of two firearms, three live cartridges, and other incriminating items, as part of the command's sustained offensive against cultism and violent criminal activities.

In one operation, operatives from the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit discovered a locally fabricated single-barrel pistol concealed in a bush in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. This discovery followed the confession of a suspect identified as Nwodo Peters Chinweokwu, also known as "Sir-P" or "Biggy." Chinweokwu was arrested alongside seven other individuals: Nnaji Emmanuel, Iroegbu Joshua, Nwafor Miracle, Ogbonna Moses Osinachi, Oha Chidiebere Francis, Udebuani Chukwuma, and Elochukwu Oko.

In a separate operation conducted early on the same day, police acting on the confession of another suspect, Izuchukwu Obieze, alias "Small," arrested five more individuals in Ezeagu Local Government Area. The recovered items from this operation included one pump-action gun loaded with three live cartridges. The arrested suspects in this operation were Oscar Ebuka, Eze Chimaobi Godson (alias 'Torpedo'), Ukeje Kingsley, Tochukwu Chilo (alias 'Boss Me'), and Nnamezie Amechi (alias 'Obodobuigwe').

Investigations are ongoing, with the suspects reportedly providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing accomplices and the recovery of more exhibits. All arrested individuals are expected to be arraigned upon the conclusion of the investigations. The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their successful operations and reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and supportive of the police.
