Police Arrest Cross-Regional Motorcycle Theft Ring in Central Jakarta

Central Jakarta police have apprehended a gang involved in motorcycle theft that spanned several areas within the city. Three suspects have been arrested, with one still listed as a fugitive. The arrests followed reports of motorcycle disappearances starting in May 2026.

According to Kapolsek Johar Baru Komisaris Saiful Anwar, the investigation began after a motorcycle was reported stolen on May 15, 2026, in Johar Baru. The stolen item was a Honda Genio, valued at approximately Rp 23 million. CCTV footage and field investigations led police to identify four suspects in this case.

Further investigations uncovered another theft on May 26, 2026, in the same Johar Baru area. Police arrested suspect JJ, seizing tools believed to be used in the thefts, including an L-key. Subsequent investigations led to the capture of suspects AA on May 31, 2026, and MWP on June 9, 2026. The group reportedly used L-keys and T-keys to break ignition locks before stealing the motorcycles.

One suspect, identified only as R, is still wanted by police. Interrogations revealed that R sold the stolen Honda Genio via social media for Rp 2.5 million, with the proceeds divided among the gang members. Police are continuing their search for R and exploring the possibility that the arrested suspects are involved in other theft cases. Evidence seized includes vehicle registration documents, a stolen motorcycle, wrenches, and specialized tools.
