Police arrest father, son with four firearms in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has reported the arrest of a 68-year-old man and his son for allegedly possessing four single-barrel guns unlawfully. The suspects, identified as Tibi Friday and his son Oyabrade Tibi, were apprehended along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway in Yenagoa.

The Bayelsa State Police Command under the leadership of CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor has recorded another significant operational breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects in possession of four single-barrel guns.

According to a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Musa Mohammed, the arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by officers from the Anti-Vice Unit. The father and son were reportedly traveling in a commercial tricycle towards Abua in neighboring Rivers State when their vehicle was intercepted.

During the search, officers discovered four single-barrel guns concealed within a sack, covered with sticks. Investigators believe this was an attempt by the suspects to evade detection. The police statement indicated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa for a discreet investigation.
