Police arrest four robbers, recover stolen motorcycle in Kwara

Police in Kwara State have arrested four individuals suspected of a violent robbery and recovered a stolen motorcycle. The incident occurred along the Ali Weree Camp axis in Ifelodun Local Government Area when armed assailants attacked two commuters returning from a market.

On 4th June 2026 at about 2000hrs, two commuters returning from a market were attacked by a group of armed men wielding sticks and cutlasses along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The attackers, wielding sticks and cutlasses, inflicted injuries on the victims before seizing their motorcycle and fleeing the scene. The Kwara State Police Command, in collaboration with personnel from the National Forest Security Service, launched a swift operation that led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the apprehension of four suspects.

The assailants inflicted injuries on the victims and forcefully dispossessed them of their motorcycle before fleeing the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects acted as a group. Authorities are also searching for a fifth individual, identified as Sumo, who is believed to be the gang's leader and possibly in possession of weapons. The police have stated that tactical and intelligence-driven efforts are underway to capture Sumo and recover any arms.

Upon receipt of the report, operatives immediately launched a coordinated operation in collaboration with personnel of the National Forest Security Service operating within the area.

The state's Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their rapid response and effective collaboration, highlighting the operation as a testament to the command's commitment to combating crime and aligning with the Inspector-General of Police's vision for intelligence-led policing.

The operation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of four suspects identified as Umaru Haruna, Habibu Kale, Kire Yelwa, and Iliyasu Gambo.
