Police Arrest Four Suspected Kidnappers, Robbers, Recover Firearm

The Anambra State police command has announced significant operational breakthroughs, arresting four suspected kidnappers and robbers involved in separate criminal activities. The arrests are part of an ongoing security review and sustained offensive against violent crimes within the state.

As part of the ongoing security review and sustained offensive against violent crimes, the Anambra Police Command has recorded significant operational breakthroughs with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers.

In one operation on July 16, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, working with detectives from the Ogbaru Divisional Police Station, thwarted a kidnapping plot in Iyiowa, Odekpe, Atani. They arrested three male suspects, Chekwube Chukwu, 32, Amarachukwu Nwobosi, 34, and Sopuluchukwu Ifeakor, 30, and recovered a black Toyota Camry with tinted windows, believed to be the gang's operational vehicle.

The team arrested three male suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate, and recovered a black Toyota Camry with tinted glasses and Lagos Registration number LND 789HR, believed to have been used by the gang for its operations.

Preliminary investigations revealed the suspects were actively attempting to abduct a female Point of Sale (POS) operator. Her alarm alerted residents, prompting a swift police response. The timely intervention led to the victim's rescue and the suspects' arrest. Further investigation linked these individuals to a prior kidnapping on June 3, where a female POS operator was abducted, robbed of two POS machines and Android phones, and released after her family paid N3.5 million in ransom.

The police’s timely intervention frustrated the kidnap attempt, leading to the rescue of the victim and the subsequent arrest of the suspects.

In a separate incident on July 15, police operatives arrested Johnbosco Okoye, 32, also known as Bone. This arrest is connected to the investigation of a kidnapping in Okpanam, Asaba, Delta State, where the victim was abducted, robbed, and forced to pay a ransom before release. A search of Okoye yielded one locally fabricated pistol and two live ammunition rounds.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crimes.
