Police arrest four suspects for robbing e-hailing drivers in Abuja

Four individuals have been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for allegedly specializing in robbing e-hailing platform drivers in Abuja. The suspects reportedly posed as passengers to gain the trust of Bolt and Uber drivers before dispossessing them of their vehicles and personal belongings.

The arrests were made on July 7, 2026, following credible intelligence gathered by the command's Violent Crime Response Unit. Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate operated by booking rides through e-hailing apps, then ambushing the drivers. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi paraded the suspects and recovered exhibits at the command headquarters.

The suspects operated by posing as regular passengers booking commercial vehicles through e-ride platforms before attacking the drivers, dispossessing them of their vehicles and other valuables.

During the operation, police recovered two vehicles: an ash-colored Toyota RAV4 and a grey Honda Civic. The arrested suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Ismail, Ahmed Omar, Rizku Asehu, and Omar Abubakar. They are expected to be charged in court once investigations conclude.

In a related development, the FCT police also arrested a suspect identified as Oumar Odunda, believed to be a logistics supplier for a kidnapping gang. Odunda was apprehended on July 10 in Nasarawa State following a follow-up investigation into an abduction that occurred on July 8 in Abuja's Mpape area. Commissioner Sanusi highlighted these arrests as part of the command's ongoing crackdown on violent crimes and attributed the successes to public cooperation and intelligence sharing.
