Police arrest four suspects, rescue kidnapped Ondo woman

Ondo State police have arrested four suspects and rescued a 26-year-old woman, Miss Ogechi John, who was abducted in Owo. The police command announced the breakthrough on Tuesday, identifying the suspects as Friday Shola, Friday Monday, Osho Joseph, and Lawal Mariam.

The command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime with the successful rescue of a 26-year-old woman who was allegedly abducted in Owo and the arrest of four suspects linked to the incident.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the victim was allegedly abducted by unidentified men on June 8, 2026, along the Emure-Akure Expressway. The suspects reportedly used an ash-coloured, unregistered Toyota Camry to forcibly take the victim before fleeing to an unknown location.

Upon receiving a distress report, the police command initiated a swift, coordinated response. This involved Amotekun personnel, local hunters, and vigilantes. They secured entry and exit points in Owo and surrounding areas, deploying patrol and tactical teams to search nearby bushes and potential escape routes. The operation successfully located the victim and led to the apprehension of suspects.

Strategic entry and exit points within Owo and neighbouring communities were secured, while patrol and tactical teams were deployed to comb nearby bushes and likely escape routes in a bid to locate the victim and apprehend the suspects.

The getaway vehicle was later found abandoned in a bush at Ojana, Owo. Intelligence gathered during the operation led to the arrest of three suspects found with a woman's motorcycle believed to be connected to the crime. One suspect revealed that the abandoned Toyota Camry had been handed over to a herbalist, Lawal Lucky, who is currently at large. The victim was rescued and is receiving hospital treatment, with investigations continuing to find other accomplices.
