Police arrest spiritualist after three children found dead in Anambra residence

Police in Anambra State, Nigeria, have arrested a spiritualist, known locally as ‘Ezenwanya,’ following the discovery of three dead children in her residence. The incident occurred in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, within the Idemili North Local Government Area.

Upon receipt of the information, the rescue team led by police operatives attached to Ogidi Police station rushed the victims immediately to a hospital for emergency medical attention.

Operatives responding to the scene found four children, ranging in age from 6 to 15, at the suspect's shrine. Three were confirmed deceased, while the fourth child remains in critical condition and is receiving medical treatment. A video circulating online showed the woman leading police into her residence, where the victims' bodies were visible.

Regrettably, three of the children were certified dead by medical doctors, while the fourth victim is currently receiving treatment in a critical condition.

Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the deaths and the suspect's detention. He stated that the State Criminal Investigation Department will lead a thorough investigation. Authorities hope the surviving child will be able to provide testimony once medically stable. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary for autopsy. The police command extended condolences to the families and the community, urging calm and patience as the investigation unfolds.
