Police arrest suspect wanted over murder of road safety officer and daughter

A suspect wanted in Nigeria over the alleged abduction and murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps officer and her daughter has been arrested in Ghana and returned to Nigeria, the police said.

The Nigeria Police Force identified the suspect as Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum. According to a statement from police headquarters, officers tracked his movements after a video involving him went viral on social media. The Ghana Police Service then arrested him and repatriated him to Nigeria for investigation and prosecution.

The force cited the case as an example of how international cooperation can help track suspects who move across borders to evade arrest. It said criminal networks increasingly operate across national boundaries, including cybercriminals targeting victims in different jurisdictions and organised groups moving people, illicit goods and criminal proceeds.

Police also referred to the arrest of Mark Sunny Okoh, a Brazilian national wanted over alleged cocaine trafficking. They said Okoh had fled Brazil after jumping bail and was arrested in Lagos following international coordination. Extradition proceedings to Brazil have begun, according to the force.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to deeper cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement partners. He highlighted information sharing, coordinated investigations, capacity building and operational support across borders as tools for addressing emerging security threats.
