Police arrest suspected cultist, recover gun in Ekiti

Police in Ekiti State have arrested a 26-year-old man identified as Sunday Samuel on suspicion of cult membership. The arrest occurred in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area, following credible intelligence received by police operatives at the Efon Division.

Upon receipt of the information, operatives immediately commenced investigation. The investigation led to the suspect’s arrest. A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him.

During the operation, which took place around 11:45 pm on August 7, officers recovered a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge, along with a mobile phone, from the suspect. The Ekiti State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the details in a statement released in Ado Ekiti.

Abutu stated that the investigation led directly to Samuel's arrest and the subsequent recovery of the items. The Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ado Ekiti for comprehensive further investigation.
