Police arrest suspected Enugu armed robber with pistol

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have apprehended a 26-year-old suspect, Chekwube Agbo, in connection with armed robbery activities. The arrest, which occurred on August 10, 2026, in Obollo Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area, followed a tip-off from a vigilant citizen regarding suspicious behavior at a hotel.

The suspect’s bag was searched, leading to the recovery of the locally made pistol and live cartridge. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, officers responded to the intelligence and conducted a search of Agbo's bag. This search led to the recovery of a locally-made pistol and a live cartridge. The suspect was immediately taken into custody along with the recovered exhibits.

During preliminary interrogation, Agbo allegedly confessed to his involvement in an armed robbery syndicate specializing in targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and dispossessing them of their valuables. He also reportedly indicated that other members of the gang had fled the scene before the police arrived.

An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and Agbo is expected to be arraigned in court soon.
