Police arrest suspected robber over alleged use of pistol-like lighter in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has apprehended a 22-year-old man suspected of robbery, who allegedly used a distinctive weapon to terrorize the public. The suspect, identified as Chidera from Umunneochi Local Government Area, was arrested by operatives of the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters based on credible intelligence.

The suspect is known to be habitually robbing unsuspecting members of the public using a stainless lighter designed to resemble a pistol, thereby instilling fear in his victims and dispossessing them of their belongings.

According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidera is accused of using a stainless steel lighter designed to resemble a pistol. This imitation firearm was allegedly used to create the impression that he was armed, thereby forcing his victims to surrender their valuables. The arrest occurred on July 5, and police recovered additional items believed to be connected to his alleged crimes.

The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Chinaka stated that the suspect is known for habitually robbing unsuspecting members of the public by instilling fear with the pistol-like lighter. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of his alleged activities and to identify any potential accomplices. The police confirmed that Chidera will face charges in court once the investigation concludes.
