Police arrest three over motorcycle theft, recover seven bikes in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of motorcycle theft and recovered seven motorcycles in a series of operations across the state. The arrests were made in Ado Ekiti, Ido Ekiti, and Ilogbo Ekiti, targeting both thieves and receivers of stolen property.

On Saturday, 18th July, 2026, at about 2 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on credible intelligence, received information that a suspect had stolen a red Bajaj motorcycle around the Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School area, Ado-Ekiti, and was fleeing towards the Ilawe Road axis.

The operation began when police received intelligence about a stolen red Bajaj motorcycle in Ado-Ekiti. A pursuit led to the arrest of Mustapha Lekan, 38, from Osun State, who was found with the stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, Lekan confessed to stealing two motorcycles within Ado-Ekiti.

Further investigations directed detectives to Ilogbo Ekiti and Ido Ekiti, where two suspected receivers of stolen motorcycles, identified as Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, were apprehended. Authorities also recovered six additional motorcycles believed to be stolen. The police are currently working to identify the rightful owners of these recovered vehicles and to apprehend any other individuals involved in the criminal network.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing two motorcycles within Ado-Ekiti. Further investigation led detectives to Ilogbo Ekiti and Ido Ekiti, where two suspected receivers of stolen motorcycles, identified as Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, were arrested.

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, commended the operatives for their swift action and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and eradicating criminal elements from the state.
