Police arrest three suspects in Netherlands terrorism probe

Dutch authorities have arrested three suspects in connection with an ongoing terrorism investigation, with raids conducted in Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Alkmaar. The suspects, aged between 16 and 19, were apprehended overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday. Two of the three are minors.

All three are scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday for a preliminary hearing. Local media reported that the operation in Rotterdam involved a heavily armed arrest team. In one instance, officers were seen with heavy firearms observing sheds during the raid. The arrested man was initially taken away by car but was later returned to the street as police required him to unlock his confiscated phone.

The arrest in Brabant also drew attention, with local reports describing a door being blown open at a residence in Eindhoven. Heavily armed officers entered the property and arrested a man, who was then taken away in handcuffs and blindfolded. This same address was reportedly the site of a previous arrest in 2023, involving a Turkish-Dutch teenager identified as an Islamic State supporter. That individual was allegedly involved in serious discussions about carrying out an attack in Belgium with other suspects.

The National Public Prosecution Service confirmed the arrests, stating they are part of a continuing investigation into terrorism. Further details on the specific nature of the alleged terrorist activities or the suspects' alleged roles have not been released.
