Police arrest three vehicle thieves, recover four tricycles in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of vehicle theft, recovering four tricycles and a Pontiac vehicle in separate intelligence-led operations. The operations involved collaboration with security formations across state borders, highlighting a coordinated effort to combat crime.

The complainant said he was riding along Hadejia Road when he picked a 23-year-old passenger, Muhammad Sani, at Sufi Mart.

The first case involved the theft of a tricycle reported on August 4. The victim was allegedly targeted by a passenger who, after asking to stop at a supermarket, used a spare key to steal the tricycle. Police alerted neighboring divisions, leading to the arrest of the suspect, Muhammad Sani, in Bichi. Further investigation in Katsina State resulted in the apprehension of another syndicate member, Aminu Saad, from whom four suspected stolen tricycles were recovered.

These recovered tricycles were reportedly stolen using a similar modus operandi. Saad has confessed to his involvement in the syndicate. The police have returned the tricycles to their rightful owners and are continuing their investigation to apprehend any remaining members of the group.

While the complainant was away, the suspect used another key to ignite the tricycle and drove away.

In a separate operation, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested a 23-year-old man in possession of a maroon Pontiac vehicle without a registration number. The suspect claimed to have purchased the car from Niger Republic, but further investigation revealed it was stolen from Taraba State. The police are appealing to the vehicle's owner to come forward with proof of ownership.

The four recovered tricycles have since been handed over to their rightful owners, while investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate.
