Police Arrest Two Over Car Theft, Recover Vehicles in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has demonstrated its commitment to tackling crime with recent successes in apprehending suspects involved in vehicle theft and the vandalism of critical infrastructure. These operations, stemming from credible intelligence and coordinated surveillance, underscore the command's proactive approach to ensuring the safety and security of the state.

In a significant breakthrough, two individuals were arrested for their alleged roles in a car theft syndicate. One suspect was apprehended at a hotel in Minna with a stolen Honda CR-V, which he admitted to bringing from Kano with the intention of finding a buyer. His confession led to the arrest of a second suspect in Bida, who was allegedly in the process of purchasing a Toyota Corolla, believed to be stolen, for a substantial sum.

The intelligence received indicated that Abdulfatai is a suspected member of a car theft syndicate and he was discovered to have come to Minna from Kano with a stolen vehicle.

Beyond vehicle theft, the police also dismantled a network involved in the vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure. Three suspects were arrested in connection with criminal conspiracy and the theft of armoured cables belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. Another operation in Kotangora led to the arrest of an individual for alleged transformer oil vandalism, with two accomplices still at large.

These arrests are crucial not only for recovering stolen property but also for disrupting criminal enterprises that threaten public safety and economic stability. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had contacted Nura Umar in Bida to purchase the said vehicle. Nura was immediately arrested by the Police in Bida, and he was also found with a Toyota Corolla vehicle… Nura stated that Abdulfatai brought the Corolla vehicle to him… at the rate of one million, one hundred thousand naira only.
