Police begin rescue operation for abducted Oyo headmaster

The Oyo State Police Command has launched a joint security operation to rescue Owoade Mathew, a 60-year-old headmaster and farmer, who was abducted from his farm in Igbojaye Community, Oorelope Local Government Area. The kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.

According to a police statement, a distress report was received Sunday morning after Mathew failed to return home from his farm. His family found his motorcycle at the farm, and later received a call using his phone stating he had been abducted. Preliminary findings indicate he went to his farm on Saturday afternoon.

The Command wishes to clarify that, contrary to inaccurate reports circulating in some sections of the media, the victim was abducted while on his farm and not within the premises of any school.

The police command clarified that the abduction did not occur within a school premises, contrary to some media reports. Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga has ordered the deployment of a joint rescue team, comprising police operatives, Amotekun Corps personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters. This team is actively searching the surrounding forests for the victim. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units are also involved in the operation to secure Mathew's release and apprehend the abductors.

The police assured residents of their commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes, urging the public to provide credible information. The command reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property through collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders.
