Police bust suspected one-chance robbery syndicate in Rivers, arrest two

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two individuals believed to be part of a "one-chance" robbery syndicate that has been preying on the public. The arrests followed an incident where the suspects robbed a woman who had boarded a minibus in the Rumuosi area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Moments later, the lady started shouting and tried to escape from the robbers but was resisted by them (the one-chance gang).

According to an eyewitness, the victim began shouting and attempted to escape the robbers after they boarded the vehicle. Her cries attracted passers-by, who pursued the speeding minibus. The driver, apparently unfamiliar with the area, became trapped, and residents began to confront the suspects before the police arrived.

The shouting, the brawl and the voice of the lady, however, attracted passers-by who chased after the speeding vehicle.

The police intervened, rescuing the criminals from the mob and taking them into custody. Blessing Agabe, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the arrests, describing them as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on such syndicates. The arrested suspects, identified as Uche Samuel, 45, and Nkechi Amadi, 42, both from Imo State, have reportedly confessed to their involvement.

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on one-chance syndicates with the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious one-chance gang operating within the state.

Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju reiterated the command's commitment to combating "one-chance" operators and other violent criminals. He warned that there would be no safe haven for offenders in the state and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid the police in preventing and resolving crimes.

During investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the other members of the criminal syndicate.
