Police cite 38 taxi drivers at Denmark's Smukfest festival

Danish police have issued citations to 38 taxi drivers over two days in connection with the Smukfest music festival held near Skanderborg. The operations were conducted by the South East Jutland Police.

Among the drivers cited, one is accused of driving with narcotics in his blood, another was found to be operating without a valid driver's license, and five citations were issued for taxis operating with improper permits. One driver also received a fine for lacking the necessary taxi operating permit, which amounts to 35,000 Danish kroner.

According to reports, many of the citations relate to technical violations, such as missing taxi meter certificates or undisplayed driver identification cards. Police previously conducted similar checks at last year's festival. In 2023, 42 taxis were inspected, leading to 17 vehicles being issued with a temporary ban from commercial operation until their issues were rectified, as announced by the South East Jutland Police on Facebook.

Smukfest is scheduled to run from August 2 to August 9, with the festival grounds opening on August 5.
