Police confirm murder of youth leader in Benue attack

Armed assailants attacked the Ondo community in Benue State's Otukpo Local Government Area early Tuesday, killing youth leader Sunday Ogoh and injuring the traditional head and several other residents. The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers stormed the community and opened fire on residents. Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet reported receiving a distress call at 6:10 a.m. about the attack.

At about 0610hrs, we received information that unknown gunmen attacked Ondo, Ugboju in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Following the incident, police deployed tactical teams and senior officers to the area to restore calm and begin a manhunt for the perpetrators. Members of the local vigilance group and other security agencies were also mobilized to support the operation. DSP Edet assured residents that security agencies are making concerted efforts to apprehend those responsible.

One Sunday Ogoh, the youth chairman, sadly lost his life, while the head of Ondo and others who were wounded were rushed to the hospital.

The police urged the public to remain calm and cooperate by providing useful information to aid the investigation. Further updates on the operation will be communicated as it progresses.
