Police deploy school protection squad across Ogun, urge vigilance

The Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad across the state as schools resume academic activities, with some institutions scheduled to reopen later.

The deployment is intended to increase police visibility around schools and protect pupils, teachers and other school personnel. Officers will also secure school infrastructure, gather actionable intelligence and respond quickly to emerging security threats.

The command said Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni recently received an executive delegation from the Police Community Relations Committee Safe School Club at its headquarters in Abeokuta. The meeting focused on cooperation among police, school authorities, parents, students and community stakeholders to identify, report and prevent threats in and around schools.

Police spokesman Oluseyi Babasuyi said the initiative followed the Inspector-General of Police's agenda for proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing. Ojajuni urged the squad to remain vigilant, maintain close contact with school communities and act promptly on credible security information.

The command also urged the public to follow the principle, "SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING." Residents were told not to ignore suspicious people, vehicles, movements or activities near schools, because early information could help prevent an incident.
