Police Find Missing Woman with Dementia in Hospital After 10-Hour Search

A woman with dementia who went missing from her home in Ruifang, New Taipei City, was safely located by police after being out of contact for 10 hours. The family's relief was immense after the successful search.

The incident began early yesterday morning when the woman, identified by the surname Zeng, left her residence around 6 a.m. and did not return. Her husband reported her missing nearly nine hours later, expressing concern due to her disorientation and unpredictable movements.

Officers from the Ruifang Police Station, led by Deputy Chief Chen Chun-liang and officers Tong Hao-yang and Lin Yu-jung, immediately mobilized. They reviewed surveillance footage from intersections along her likely route and compared it with photos of her attire and physical description provided by her family. Simultaneously, they drove along potential paths searching for her.

Around 4 p.m., while driving on Kuangong Road in Ruifang District, Chen spotted a woman at the Kuangong Hospital whose clothing and appearance matched the description. Upon verification, it was confirmed to be Ms. Zeng. She appeared unharmed and was in stable condition. Police took her back to the station and contacted her family.

Chen urged the public to report missing persons with dementia immediately by calling 110, providing recent clear photos and details of their clothing. He stressed the importance of acting quickly during the critical search window. He also recommended preventative measures such as memory-loss bracelets, GPS tracking devices, or fingerprint registration at police stations to ensure the safety of elderly individuals.
