Police Find Woman's Corpse in Suitcase in Greece; Suspect Detained

Greek authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a British woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in Athens. Police announced Sunday the detention of a 26-year-old man, identified in media reports as an Afghan national, who has allegedly confessed to the crime. The victim, identified by media outlets as Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, had arrived in Greece on June 26 and was staying with a friend in the Piraeus area until July 10. She then departed for an unknown location within the Athens metropolitan area. Police stated that officers from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime resolved the homicide of the 38-year-old British citizen, whose remains were found in an abandoned building in the Kypseli area on July 18. The suspect faces charges including intentional homicide, robbery, and firearms offenses. Reports indicate the suspect claimed he found the victim already deceased. Interpol in the United States and the UK's National Crime Agency assisted in the investigation, helping to identify the victim's fingerprints despite the body's advanced state of decomposition.
