Police investigate military-style vessel spotted near Brijuni National Park

Croatian police are investigating a vessel that caused concern after being sighted in the waters near Brijuni National Park. The craft, described as resembling a military vessel, was observed by officers from the Pula-Pola Maritime and Airport Police Station on August 27th.

Authorities confirmed that the vessel is owned by a legal entity and registered in Croatia. However, it was not displaying its registration markings, prompting police to notify the Port Authority regarding a potential violation of the Maritime Code. The boat was being operated by a 57-year-old Slovenian national, who was in civilian clothing during the police interaction.

Initial reports suggested possible false representation for free use of a mooring. Police stated that the man did not misrepresent himself or provide false information regarding the mooring. Nevertheless, due to these claims and other potential irregularities, a criminal investigation will be conducted to ascertain the exact events.

Police specifically refuted media claims that the vessel had entered an area with protected persons. They emphasized that no protected individuals were present on Brijuni at the time the vessel was sighted, thereby dismissing reports of a serious security incident.
