Police Investigate Sudden Closure of Kasterlee Restaurant and Hotel

Police in Turnhout have launched an investigation into the abrupt closure of De Watermolen, a restaurant and hotel located in Kasterlee. The investigation was prompted by numerous reports from dissatisfied customers who arrived to find the doors locked. Some patrons had already paid for reservations, leading to feelings of being defrauded.

De Watermolen had previously faced difficulties and underwent a restart after a previous company's bankruptcy. Agreements were made, inventory reorganized, and contracts transferred to a new company, HMI Legacy, according to the establishment's website.

However, the operator of De Watermolen has publicly stated on social media that he did not wish to close the business. He alleges that the building's owner orchestrated his removal, making new arrangements behind his back. "What is particularly painful is that behind my back, new agreements and arrangements would have been made, while I wanted to develop De Watermolen into a successful and beautiful business for the region," he stated. "Unfortunately, circumstances have now decided otherwise."

Police have received one official complaint and are continuing their inquiry into the matter.
