Police kill bandit, rescue two abducted victims in Zamfara

Zamfara State Police Command reported the successful rescue of two abducted persons and the neutralization of an armed bandit during an operation in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area. The operation, conducted on Sunday afternoon, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and its magazine.

A joint team comprising police tactical operatives, members of the Community Protection Guard, and the Civilian Joint Task Force was conducting a rescue operation along Tashar Lawali Village. They intercepted a group of armed bandits who were moving with abducted individuals. Upon sighting the security team, the bandits opened fire, initiating a firefight.

The joint security team responded with superior firepower, repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to retreat. During the encounter, one bandit was shot dead, and an AK-47 rifle was recovered. While two abducted victims were rescued, other members of the gang reportedly fled into the surrounding area with injuries. The police confirmed that no casualties were sustained by the joint security forces.

The police command indicated that efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects and rescue any additional abducted victims.
