Police launch show of force in Nasarawa ahead of campaign season

Nasarawa State Police have announced a continuous show-of-force operation across the state, commencing Monday, to ensure security ahead of political campaigns. The exercise, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, is designed to reassure residents of the authorities' readiness to protect lives and property and maintain public order.

The operation will begin in the Southern Senatorial District, then proceed to the Northern and Western Senatorial Districts. Security personnel will be deployed to entry and exit routes, strategic locations, and other critical areas. Intensive stop-and-search operations will also be conducted to prevent the movement of criminals and illicit items.

Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, emphasized that the exercise is not targeted at any specific individual, group, or political party. "It is a proactive security measure designed solely to safeguard lives and property, maintain public order, and ensure a peaceful and secure environment," he stated.

The show of force will commence in the Southern Senatorial District, and subsequently proceed to the Northern Senatorial District.

Residents are urged to remain calm, continue their lawful activities, and cooperate with security personnel. Mohammed assured the public that the heavy security presence, particularly in Lafia and other key locations, is intended to enhance security and should not be a cause for alarm. The police also requested public cooperation during stop-and-search operations and encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious activities.

The measures are being implemented ahead of political campaigns scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 19.
