Police mobilize over Levski Sofia fans in central Athens

Police have mobilized in central Athens to monitor fans of Bulgarian football club Levski Sofia who are in the city for a UEFA Champions League playoff match against AEK. Videos circulating online show groups of Bulgarian fans moving through the streets, some shirtless, and reportedly approaching a woman eating in a shop.

Earlier, at the Elefsina and Afidnes toll stations, authorities arrested six Levski Sofia fans. Knives were found in their possession. The Greek police (EL.AS) have implemented heightened security measures in Athens for Wednesday's match.

These measures include the deployment of three DIAS rapid response units with an officer, three DRA.SI units, one Y.A.T. riot police unit, one Y.M.E.T. traffic police unit, one OPKE special operations team, and four officers from the Sports Violence division. Additionally, a State Security patrol and a Security motorcycle unit are present in the city center.

Authorities have taken increased precautions to ensure the smooth conduct of the AEK – Levski Sofia match. The presence of these security forces aims to manage the influx of fans and prevent any potential disturbances during the team's visit to Athens.
