Police, NYSC partner for corps members security

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigeria Police Force are strengthening their collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and security of corps members across Nigeria. This renewed commitment was highlighted during a courtesy visit by NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The police have been instrumental to the success of NYSC activities and programmes since its inception.

Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the critical importance of sustained police support for NYSC activities, particularly in safeguarding corps members within orientation camps and their host communities. His appeal for enhanced security measures comes with a heightened sense of urgency as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections, a period often associated with increased security challenges. The NYSC seeks proactive protection for corps members and their belongings, including their lodges.

We appeal for maximum security for Corps Members and NYSC officials within and outside the Orientation Camps.

In response, the Inspector-General of Police assured the NYSC of the police force's unwavering commitment to protecting corps members nationwide. He confirmed that the police maintain records of corps lodges to facilitate swift responses to any security incidents. The IG also welcomed discussions on administrative matters, specifically the issuance of exemption certificates to graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy, signaling a cooperative approach to resolving such issues and further solidifying the partnership between the two institutions.
