Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Woman in Abdomen During Conversation in Caracas

A shocking incident in Caracas, Venezuela, saw a police officer accidentally shoot a young woman during what appeared to be a relaxed conversation. The entire event was captured on surveillance cameras outside a metro station.

The footage shows Officer Siomary Castillo interacting with 22-year-old Nairelis González Ávalo. Castillo was reportedly showing Ávalo her firearm when it unexpectedly discharged, striking the victim in the abdomen. The video depicts Ávalo immediately reacting to severe pain, clutching her stomach as she and Castillo sought help from another officer.

Paramedics and Civil Protection teams arrived swiftly to provide first aid before transporting Ávalo to the Domingo Luciani hospital. She underwent surgery, and a hospital official described her condition as delicate but stable. Authorities have not yet confirmed the full extent of her injuries.

A spokesperson for the Bolivarian National Police stated that all indications point to a "regrettable accident with a firearm" and confirmed that an internal investigation has been launched to determine how the weapon discharged. The incident has raised questions about firearm safety protocols within the police force.
