Police Officer, Teacher Die in Head-On Collision in Lenggong

A fatal head-on collision claimed the lives of a senior police officer and a teacher in Lenggong, Malaysia. The incident occurred on the Kuala Kangsar-Gerik-Pengkalan Hulu road when Inspector Melvindar Singh Gamum Singh, 41, was driving his Toyota Vios from Gerik towards Kuala Kangsar. Police believe he lost control of his vehicle while attempting to overtake another car. His car then veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a direct collision with a Honda Odyssey carrying six teachers. The impact was severe, killing Inspector Singh at the scene. Zuraida Abu Bakar, 47, a teacher at Kolej Vokasional Gerik, who was a passenger in the Honda Odyssey, also died while receiving initial treatment at the scene. The driver of the Honda Odyssey, a 44-year-old teacher, and five other passengers suffered injuries. They were transported to the Lenggong Health Clinic and Kuala Kangsar Hospital for further treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Gerik Hospital for post-mortem examinations before being released to their families. Authorities are investigating the crash under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
