Police prevent screening of student documentary 'Tour to Strasbourg' in Serbia

Authorities in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia, prevented the planned screening of the documentary film "Tour to Strasbourg" in the town's pedestrian zone. Police were present at the scene, as were activists from the Serbian Progressive Party, who unfurled a banner. The intervention came after a relevant inspector informed organizers that they could not proceed with the projection, citing potential confiscation of the projector and equipment.

Suzana Stojaković from the "Zbor Sremski Karlovci" group told N1 that the event, intended as a gathering with students, was scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Despite the official prohibition, citizens began to gather. Stojaković noted that municipal workers and police were present to enforce the ban, alongside supporters of the ruling party.

Despite the obstacles, organizers stated their intention to hold the screening. The film "Tour to Strasbourg," by TV Nova journalist Radovan Seratlić, chronicles the 1,400-kilometer bicycle journey undertaken by a group of students in April 2025. Their destination was the seat of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where they planned to deliver a letter from Serbian students to European officials. Seratlić accompanied the students throughout their journey, cycling the entire distance with them.

A long banner with the inscription "students win" was displayed in front of the Patriarchal Court in the center of Sremski Karlovci, indicating continued support for the students' initiative despite the attempt to block the film screening.
