Police probe military shooting of Adamawa businessman

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations that military personnel shot a businessman in Mubi North Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of August 2, 2026, resulting in the victim sustaining a gunshot injury.

According to a statement issued by the command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police received a report on August 3, 2026, from Mr. Muslim Abubakar of Yelwa Ward, Mubi North. Abubakar alleged that his younger brother, Suleiman Abubakar, was injured during an encounter with military personnel. Police operatives visited the scene and ensured the victim received immediate medical attention.

The victim was initially treated at a medical facility in Mubi before being transferred to a higher medical facility in Yola for further treatment. The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabiru Hassan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The police command has also established contact with the relevant military authorities to ensure cooperation during the investigation. They have appealed for calm and assured the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally and transparently. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward. This incident occurs amid broader concerns about alleged excessive force by security personnel in the region. A similar incident in 2024, where an Army personnel allegedly shot a young man in Ganye Local Government Area, sparked public outrage and calls for accountability.
