Police raid industrialist’s home over cash tip-off, find nothing

Police in Biratnagar, Nepal, conducted a pre-dawn raid on the residence and office of prominent industrialist Prakash Mundara, a former president of the Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The operation, launched around 4 a.m. on Monday, was prompted by a tip-off alleging the storage of a large cache of illegal cash on the premises.

Led by Superintendent of Police Kabit Katwal, the search involved officers from the District Police Office, Morang, the Biratnagar Ward Police Office, and the Area Police Office in Rani. Roads in the vicinity were temporarily blocked, and the area around Mundara's home was sealed off as more than a dozen police vehicles were deployed. Despite an exhaustive search of both the residence and the adjoining office, investigators reported finding no cash, documents, or any other incriminating items.

SP Katwal confirmed the raid was based on "special intelligence" but stated the information could not be substantiated. Police have not revealed the nature of the intelligence or if the operation is connected to any ongoing investigations. The lack of findings has fueled speculation within the local business community, with police yet to announce any formal allegations or charges against Mundara.
