Police Raid Korea Football Association Headquarters Two Days After Questioning Hong Myung-bo

South Korean police have raided the headquarters of the Korea Football Association (KFA) in an escalating investigation into alleged irregularities. The search, conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's financial crime investigation unit, took place at the KFA's facilities in Cheonan and Seoul.

This move comes just two days after former national team coach Hong Myung-bo was questioned by police as a suspect. The search warrant reportedly cites charges including obstruction of business. This is the first compulsory measure taken by the police since the case was transferred to the financial crime unit.

Investigators aim to determine if there was any undue influence or improper intervention by the KFA or other parties during the process of selecting the national team coach. Police are reportedly securing internal KFA documents related to the nomination and final selection of candidates for the coaching position. The investigation is focused on the procedures surrounding Hong Myung-bo's appointment as a candidate for the 2024 national team coach.
