Police recover 245 rustled cattle, foil kidnap attempts in Kaduna

Kaduna State Police Command successfully thwarted two major criminal incidents, recovering 245 rustled cattle and foiling kidnapping attempts in Igabi and Kudan Local Government Areas. These operations, conducted on May 31, were a result of coordinated efforts involving police operatives, local vigilantes, and community members.

The joint team trailed the suspects while alerting neighbouring communities and mounting intense pressure on the bandits. Unable to withstand the pursuit, the bandits abandoned the stolen cattle and their captives and fled into the bush. Over 200 cattle were recovered unharmed, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.

In Igabi LGA, bandits invaded a Fulani settlement near Rubu Village, tying up cattle rearers and guards before stealing cattle. Following a report from the Miyetti Allah Chairman, police mobilized with vigilantes and the Civilian Joint Task Force. The joint team pursued the bandits, who eventually abandoned over 200 cattle and fled. Efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.

In a separate incident in Hunkuyi, 45 cattle were recovered. Police received intelligence about stolen cattle hidden in a bush along the Zaria–Kano Expressway. A team of police and Kaduna State Vigilance Service personnel confronted armed bandits, who opened fire. The operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the bandits to flee with suspected gunshot injuries and abandon the 45 cattle.
